More Ocean Service for Growing Trans-Pacific Shipping Demands
Changes in services by the members of the Grand Alliance have begun this month and are expansions of their present services. All told, there will be four all-water services from Asia to the U.S. East Coast, which are part of 11 Trans-Pacific loops, and eight weekly services between Asia and Europe.
One new loop between Asia and Europe and one new loop between Asia and the North American West Coast are in addition to present services. The new Asia-Europe round trip will take 56 days and make calls as Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Singapore, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Southhampton, Gioia Tauro, Singapore, Xiamen and back to Shanghai. Members of the Alliance will deploy eight vessels, each with a capacity of 4,500 TEU for the service.
The North American service, called “Northwest Express Service,” will use five ship each with a capacity of 2,900 TEU for the round trip voyage that will take 35 days. Calls will be at Ningbo, Shanghai, Qindao, Pusan, Seattle and Vancouver.
Members of the Grand Alliance are Hapag-Lloyd Container Line, Malaysia International Shipping Corp., Nippon Yusen Kaisha, Orient Overseas Container Line and P&O Nedlloyd.
Members of The New World Alliance (TNWA) have changed deployment in its service strings in order meet the challenges of the busy peak shipping season by providing additional space and enhanced service levels.
TNWA members are APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and Mitsui OSK Lines. Formerly known as its PSV, the service will know be known as Pacific South Express (PSX) The rotation is Hong Kong, Chiwan, Yantian, Oakland, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Hong Kong. The service change involves elimination of a call at Kaohsiung eastbound and addition of Oakland and Tokyo.
For its Pacific South 2 (PS2) service TNWA has added a call at Kaohsiung. The revised rotation is Xiamen, Hong Kong, Yantian, Kaohsiung and Los Angeles.
TNWA offers ten fixed-day weekly Trans-Pacific services with eight services to the U.S. West Coast and two all-water services between Asia and the U.S. East Coast via the Panama Canal. Too, TNWA has two fixed-day services in Trans-Atlantic trade and four fixed-day Asia-Europe services.
