IBM Canada Turns to DHL for Service Parts Logistics

Computer giant IBM Canada, whose global logistics operations are owned and managed by Geodis, has awarded a three-year contract to DHL Supply Chain to provide a nationwide service parts logistics solution.

DHL Supply Chain will manage service parts inventory for IBM products such as computers, servers, telecommunications equipment and printers. DHL will oversee a spare parts network that includes a 97,000-square-foot distribution center in Markham, Ontario, and 19 internal parts inventory locations (IPIs) throughout Canada. From the IPIs — smaller facilities near end-users where products are staged for delivery — service parts are couriered to customers within 30 minutes to 24 hours after order placement. The solution also includes the processing and disposition of field returns and regular scheduled replenishment of the field locations.

The contract will create approximately 40 new full-time positions.
