Wal-Mart Uses GE to Track Its Trailers
GE’s telematics product, VeriWise Asset Intelligence is a dual satellite system for precise monitoring of trailer assets, even if they aren’t attached to a tractor. Wal-Mart has current and long range plans for the use of telematic data. In transportation, telematics is the term used to describe the integration of wireless communications and sensor-generated information about freight and equipment status.
In addition to maintaining trailer visibility, Wal-Mart is incorporating two recent VeriWise enhancements in the program: interior-mounted cargo sensors and solar trickle charging systems to extend battery life.
Installations to be completed this year have begun on the Wal-Mart
fleet. The retailer will be GE’s largest trailer telemetrics
customer.
