Emirates Joins Growing List On Price Fixing Charges

Emirates is the latest airline to be added to the growing list of air carriers charged with cargo price fixing. Air Transport World reported the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission had accused Emirates of conspiring to fix cargo rates and fuel surcharges on international flights from 2002 to 2006.

In a statement, the airline said, “Emirates denies the allegations and will be defending the proceedings. It does not intend to make any further comment given that the matter is before the Court."

Emirates is the ninth carrier to face charges by the Australian authority related to cargo price-fixing. Six of the airlines have been ordered to pay penalties.

The Australian proceeding stated Emirates had entered into arrangements or understandings with other international air cargo carriers that “had the purpose and effect of fixing the price of certain fuel surcharges, security surcharges and rates."
