Motorola Launches Recycling Program for Mobile Equipment

Motorola Inc. has established a recycling program to help its U.S. Enterprise Mobility Solutions (EMS) customers dispose of used equipment.

The take-back recycling program applies to Motorola-branded mobile and portable two-way radios; handheld mobile computers; barcode scanners; imagers; in-vehicle mobile workstations; accessories; network infrastructure equipment; and computers, laptops and monitors. The company also accepts batteries, but they must be removed from equipment. There is generally no cost incurred by the customer, says Motorola, but freight charges may be applied in some cases.

Customers can ship small, portable items to one of Motorola’s e-waste recycling partners. For larger returns, a recycling partner will arrange for pickup from Motorola customers.

“Recycling conserves resources, reduces impact on the environment and makes good business sense,” says Tom Collins, senior vice president of worldwide supply chain and operations at Motorola EMS. “We’ve established this program to make it easier for our customers to recycle, while supporting Motorola’s goals of reducing the environmental impact of our own products.”
