Indiana Recognizes TIEM for Environmental Excellence
Toyota Industrial Equipment Mfg. (TIEM), the Columbus, Ind., manufacturing plant that produces the majority of lift trucks for Toyota Material Handling USA, has received the Indiana Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence.
The Governor’s Award is an annual program that recognizes facilities, state and local governments, individuals and technical-assistance organizations that have implemented environmental programs with measureable results.
“Every year, we look forward to honoring the achievements of organizations that undertake activities that improve their impact on the environment, while at the same time, advance their internal organizational practices,” says Rick Bossingham, assistant commissioner of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. “TIEM is a prime example of this philosophy, and they should serve as a model for other organizations.”
TIEM’s energy reduction program reduced electrical consumption by 12.3%, natural gas usage by 13.2% and carbon dioxide emissions by 3,611.91 tons, according to an independent energy audit.
“TIEM is honored to receive the prestigious Governor’s Award for the second time in three years,” says Kazue Sasaki, president of TIEM. “Toyota continues to strive for sustainable business practices that enhance the communities where our associates and customers live.”
