The purchaser, Vector Capital, already has investments in technology businesses that include Corel Corp., Register.com, Watchguard Technologies and Savi Technology. ?The total cash purchase price is $108 million. "Printronix is a leader in line-matrix and thermal printing solutions for growing enterprises around the world,” notes Amish Mehta, partner in the purchasers. “With the backing of Vector Capital and the benefits of being a private company, Printronix will now be able to maintain its sole focus on day to day business operations, innovation, and delivering excellent products and service to the market."

Founded in 1974, Printronix is a leading supplier of line matrix printers, continuous form laser printers and thermal bar code label printers. It also is a leader in pioneering technologies, including radio frequency identification (RFID) printing, bar code compliance and networked printer management.

The company explains that it offers engineering, manufacturing, sales and customer support centers worldwide, Its technology is sold under private label to major computer systems providers and is available under the Printronix brand name through full service distributors and value added resellers.
