Pizzas Shipped to Soldiers for Super Bowl

Jan. 26, 2011
Pizzas 4 Patriots, a non-profit organization, is teaming up with logistics service provider DHL and deep-dish pizza specialists Uno Chicago Grill to dish out 7,000 pizzas to U.S. Servicemen and Women on the largest pizza eating day of the year for Americans—Super Bowl Sunday.

Enough Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza to feed around 28,000 servicemen and women will leave the DHL New York Gateway for several bases throughout Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and The Philippines in time for Super Bowl events on Sunday, February 6. Uno Chicago Grill is providing the pizzas at-cost and DHL Express has donated its global shipping network for the delivery.

“As a retired member of the military, I am very appreciative of my local community and patriots across the country who continue supporting our ongoing initiatives that bring reminders of home to our U.S. troops stationed thousands of miles away,” said Ret. MSgt. Mark Evans. “The reactions that we continue to get for this effort from families, friends of the military and the troops themselves are always heartfelt and encouraging.”

The pizzas, along with letters of support to the troops, are transported from New York through the DHL hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport where they move onward to regional DHL hubs in the Middle East and Asia. DHL provides door-to-door, final mile delivery for the entire distribution, working closely with the U.S. military to ensure the pizzas are delivered fresh and ready to heat and serve at various military bases.

A special ceremonial send-off will take place on Tuesday, February 1 from UNO’s restaurant at 432 Columbus Avenue in New York, New York.
