The logistics corridor runs 300 kilometers by rail equipped to handle doublestacks, It connects the ports of Salina Cruz on the Pacific and Coatzacoalcos -- which Rios refers to as “Coatza Port,” to make it more pronounceable for potential American importers bringing merchandise from Asia). Both ports are fully equipped to handle as many as half a million containers a year.

Rios figures that Panama handles about 8 million containers a year and “if we manage to bring 375,000 of them north, we’ll be in fine shape.” Rios emphasizes that though the project is not new, nothing has been done about it until now. At present, despite the existing infrastructure, business is dismally low. Among potential customers are Australian shipping company, P&O Nedlloyd and Chilean Sudamericana Agencias Aéreas y Maritimas (South American Air and Maritime Agencies).
