Shearer's Foods Breaks Ground for LEED Gold Manufacturing Plant

July 15, 2009
MASSILLON, Ohio— Shearer's Foods broke ground for a new production facility that it expects will be Ohio’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) Gold Certified food manufacturing plant.

The 63,936-square foot facility will feature high levels of wall and roof insulation, energy-efficient windows and a reflective white roof. Shearer's also says it will recycle the byproducts of production and work toward implementing a zero-landfill policy.

The plant will produce more than 17 million pounds of tortilla chips per year.
