The plant in Shelbyville, Ky., part of the company’s material handling segment, along with its facility in Reidsville, N.C., part of its automotive and custom segment, will both be closed by the end of 2009.
The Shelbyville plant makes plastic reusable containers and employs nearly 90 workers. The Reidsville plant makes custom plastic products and employs about 70 people. Myers says production from the two plants will be transferred to its other operations in North America.
“The decision to close any facility is extremely difficult because of the people and communities it impacts,” says John C. Orr, president and CEO. “However, given the changed economic landscape and to better position our business, it is absolutely critical that we further reduce costs, consolidate facilities and fully utilize our high-efficiency molding capacity to enhance productivity.”
