Powerfleet Inc., specialists in materials handling systems, has launched a new range of variable reach trucks, designed for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of materials in the steel industry.

“The ML1609R MecLift variable reach truck is particularly well suited for materials handling in the steel sector because, unlike conventional forklift trucks, this vehicle is able to reach out for easy loading and unloading of materials like steel coils, rods and sheets,” says Ryan Mouritzen, vice president of Powerfleet Inc. “These compact reach trucks, which are able to drive into standard freight containers, have lifting capacities of 9, 12, 16 and 30 tons.

“Operating efficiency and safety on site is significantly improved and handling costs are also reduced. These robust variable reach trucks are also designed for efficient handling of materials onto and off trucks and railways wagons.”

MecLift reach trucks, which are powered by a diesel engine with an integrated cooling system, are economical to run and require minimal maintenance. The hydrostatic drive transmission system ensures low energy losses.

The lift carriage has a hydraulic side shift for accurate and effortless positioning. By extending, lifting and lowering horizontal booms to the exact lift height and reach, materials like steel coils can be safely handled at a distance from the cabin. Other safety features include service, parking and emergency brakes.

These robust reach trucks can be equipped with various lift carriages, forks and clamps for improved efficiency in specific applications. An important feature is that fork positioning can be altered from inside the cabin, without the operator having to get out to manually adjust the gap between the forks.

For enhanced safety, these variable reach trucks have a double boom design to ensure excellent visibility for the operator in all situations. The cabin is equipped with all necessary control and alarm devices and optional accessories include hydrostatic drives to the steering wheels and a service free exhaust gas cleaner.

Powerfleet, which supplies a range of specialist materials handling equipment to diverse industries throughout the USA, also offers a technical advisory, spare parts and support service. Operator training and a condition monitoring service for equipment are also provided.
