Grocery Distributor Converts More Vehicles to Methanol Fuel-Cell Power

Dec. 8, 2009
Super Store Industries (SSI) has ordered more methanol fuel cells from Oorja Protonics after deploying OorjaPac model H fuel cells in its material handling equipment fleet earlier this year.

SSI uses the fuel cells to power material handling vehicles operating in its Lathrop, Calif., freezer operation. SSI can charge the batteries during operation and idling conditions, resulting in increased productivity and runtime on a single charge, according to Oorja Protonics, the supplier of the fuel-cell technology.

“The cost and productivity savings that we have gained have been so significant that we have already converted a large number of our material handling vehicles, even in this economy,” says Tom Hughes of SSI.
