Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. (Pittsburgh) has expanded its Midwest regional distribution center in Plainfield, Ind., a facility acquired in its purchase of former rival Galyan's Trading Co. The facility was expanded from 350,000 sq. ft. to 725,000 sq. ft. It now has the capacity to serve 230 stores from the location, compared with 100 stores previously. A company spokesperson said it expects to add 90 employees at the plant, which now employs 310.

"The decision to expand our Plainfield facility rather than build a new facility elsewhere was an easy one. The energy and pride that our associates bring to work every day convinced us that we could not go wrong expanding here,” said Bill Colombo, Dick’s president and CEO.

The sporting goods retailer offers a broad range of brand name sporting goods equipment, apparel and footwear. As of October 28, 2006, it operated 294 stores in 34 states primarily in the eastern half of the United States.
