A merger between two last-mile transportation leaders has created one of the supply chain industrys largest last-mile logistics and delivery providers.

A merger between two last-mile transportation leaders has created one of the supply chain industry’s largest last-mile logistics and delivery providers.

3PDelivery (Atlanta), a national leader in last-mile logistics and delivery, and General Transportation Services Inc. (GTS, Atlanta), the country’s third-largest provider of home delivery services to retailers, merged December 1.

The new company, which will continue to operate under the 3PDelivery and GTS names, features a fleet of 1,100 trucks and 1,200 drivers operating in 45 states. It also combines nearly $200 million in annual revenues and forms one of the few nationwide players in an $8 billion market characterized by fragmentation.

“Combining 3PDelivery and GTS creates a clear leader in the last-mile delivery sector, especially home delivery of heavy goods,” said 3PDelivery chairman & CEO Karl Meyer. “By nearly doubling our individual companies’ size and scope, we now have the scale, geographic reach and depth of logistics knowledge to service large national accounts and compete with any player out there.”

GTS co-founder Fred Maggio, who will serve as the newly merged company’s vice chairman agreed: “We believe there are significant growth opportunities in this industry,” he said. “And we look forward to pursuing them as a bigger, better and more scalable provider.”
